The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 24-9 at SoFi Stadium on Sunday, securing their second consecutive victory and returning to a .500 record. The win marked the second regular-season Battle for LA held at the venue, ending a first half in which the Rams had struggled to generate offense. The final score reflected a third-quarter surge that erased a three-point deficit and established a lead the hosts never surrendered.
The Rams entered the game at 2-4, having dropped their previous two contests and sitting in last place in the NFC West. The victory improved their standing to 4-4. Their next result will depend on the Monday night game between the Chicago Bears and the Seattle Seahawks, which will determine the final division standings for the week.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford managed a rough first half, completing only one first down in five possessions. The Rams offense recorded zero first downs in that span while the Chargers built a 9-3 lead on three field goals. Stafford threw one interception on the opening drive, a pass intended for Konata Mumpfield that was intercepted by Tarheeb Still after a false start by Tyler Higbee extended the down and distance.
The turning point occurred late in the second quarter when Stafford connected with Tutu Atwell on a 40-yard pass down the left sideline. That strike initiated a 66-yard drive that took 1:36 to complete. Kyren Williams scored on a one-yard run to give the Rams a 10-9 lead. Blake Corum followed with a 23-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, extending the advantage to 17-9 after carrying the ball five times for 55 yards on the opening possession of that half.
Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert threw his tenth interception of the season, leading the NFL in that statistic. Trent McDuffie intercepted the pass after dropping into zone coverage. Two plays later, Stafford found Puka Nacua on a quick screen pass. Nacua broke a tackle and ran 18 yards into the end zone, increasing the Rams lead to 24-9. The Chargers had trailed by two points late in the first half after a goal-line pass fell incomplete near the sideline.
Kicker Josh Karty was elevated from the practice squad to handle kickoffs alongside Brandon McManus. His opening kickoff limited the Chargers to a nine-yard return. However, Karty incurred a penalty on a second kickoff when the ball bounced short of the landing zone. The Chargers remain 0-7, with their playoff chances diminishing as the NFL trade deadline approaches. The Rams will travel to Washington to face the Commanders during election week, seeking a third straight win.
