The Colorado Avalanche dismantled the Calgary Flames 5-2 on Saturday night, capitalizing on a thin goaltending lineup to extend their winning streak. The victory marked the second consecutive win for Denver against an opponent playing on the second night of a back-to-back series.

Artturi Lehkonen led the scoring with two goals, while Nathan MacKinnon added a goal and an assist. Defenseman Cale Makar controlled the rhythm of the offense, recording four assists. Martin Necas and Brock Nelson also found the back of the net for the home team.

Mackenzie Blackwood anchored the Avalanche goal, making 25 saves. He faced immediate pressure late in the first period after MacKinnon opened the scoring. Blackwood made a sprawling glove save on Matt Coronato with 8.5 seconds remaining in the period and stopped Joel Farabee 12 seconds into the second period.

The Flames were forced to start Arsenii Sergeev in his second career start and first this season. Calgary placed Devin Cooley on the injured list with a lower-body injury and recalled Sergeev from the AHL. The rookie made 29 saves before the game ended.

Colorado built a 4-0 lead during a three-goal burst in the first 10 minutes of the second period. Nelson scored early in that stretch but had to exit after taking a shot from Makar off the side of his helmet. He skated to the bench and returned in the third period.

Calgary reduced the deficit to 4-2. Farabee scored 1:43 after Nelson's goal, and Martin Pospisil added a goal 1:59 into the third period. Lehkonen sealed the victory by deflecting a shot from the point at 4:09 to make it 5-2.

The Avalanche took no penalties, while the Flames drew three, including two on a double minor late in the third period. Josh Manson remains out for two months with an ankle injury sustained against the New Jersey Devils. Both teams return to the ice Monday night, with Calgary visiting the San Jose Sharks and Colorado heading to the Chicago Blackhawks.
