Bayern Munich confirmed on Sunday that midfielder Ismael Saibari underwent surgery after suffering a torn ligament in his right ankle. The procedure was required following a collision with Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel during Saturday's 2-2 Bundesliga draw. Saibari was assisted off the pitch by two members of the medical staff immediately after the incident.
The club also disclosed that forward Serge Gnabry sustained a left hamstring injury in the same match. Bayern issued a brief statement regarding both players but did not provide specific timelines for their returns. The lack of a clear recovery schedule adds uncertainty to the squad's depth as the season progresses.
Saibari, who represented Morocco at the recent World Cup, joined Bayern from PSV Eindhoven during the tournament. His absence creates a notable gap in the midfield, particularly given his recent form. The club has not yet released an update on French star Michael Olise, who also left the field injured. Olise collapsed to the turf, covering his face before requesting a substitution.
Other absences complicate the squad's availability. Colombian winger Luis Díaz sat out the Dortmund game due to a thigh issue, while veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer missed the match because of a foot problem. The accumulation of these injuries has raised concerns among observers regarding the team's physical condition.
The club faces a critical test on Tuesday when it hosts Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. With several key players sidelined or recovering, the management must determine which personnel to field for the upcoming European encounter.
