Heidi Klum spent approximately five to six hours in a makeup chair on Saturday to transform into a giant, severed hand for her 25th annual Halloween party in New York. The event, which the model has hosted for two decades, culminated in a grotesque prosthetic ensemble that left only her eyes and mouth visible.
The costume depicted Klum's own left hand, complete with long red nails, a thumb ring, and both her engagement and wedding bands. The top of the prop featured dangling ligaments and tendons, while blood dripped from her prosthetic mouth. Klum attributed the concept to a moment of inspiration last year when she examined her hand and decided to fit her body inside it.
"I looked at my hand and I thought, 'Hey, I think I could fit my body in this somehow,'" Klum said. She noted that the prop was physically demanding to wear. "Hands down, the hardest thing is carrying it," she explained. "It's quite heavy."
The party has become known for Klum's elaborate disguises. In previous years, she appeared as Medusa, a peacock, an eight-foot Transformer, a werewolf from Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video, and the Hindu goddess Kali. Her 2022 appearance, where she arrived on a fishing line inside a worm costume, gained widespread online attention.
Klum posted images of the bloodied prosthetic application on Instagram earlier in the day before the event. Her husband, musician Tom Kaulitz, was absent due to a touring schedule. However, the costume included a tattoo of his name on the ring finger, along with detailed palm lines and veins.
"A little bit of Tom is with me," Klum said regarding the design choice.
