Father and Two Children Found Dead in Mt. Lebanon in Suspected Murder-Suicide

A Pennsylvania father and his two young children were found dead on Tuesday afternoon in what police are treating as a suspected double murder-suicide. The three victims were discovered behind the Mt. Lebanon Municipal Building and near an adjacent parking garage.

According to a statement from the Allegheny County Police Department, first responders arrived at the scene a little after 4 p.m. and found an adult male and two children suffering from injuries consistent with a fall. Emergency personnel immediately began life-saving measures, but medical professionals later pronounced all three individuals deceased on the scene.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victims as Patrick Lynch, 42, and his children, James, 8, and Caroline, 6. All three resided in the Mt. Lebanon community.

Police officials stated that preliminary information indicates the incident was a murder-suicide. They also noted that there is no continuing danger to the general public. Investigators have not yet released specific details regarding the circumstances or motivations that may have led to the tragic events.

Mt. Lebanon Police Chief Jason Haberman addressed the media at a press conference on Tuesday. He emphasized that the department is not treating the deaths as an accident. Haberman acknowledged the emotional weight of the situation, stating that the community would experience a significant amount of trauma associated with the event.

The chief extended his condolences to everyone involved and remarked that every member of the Mt. Lebanon community would likely know someone connected to the incident. This sentiment highlighted the close-knit nature of the neighborhood and the widespread impact of the loss.

The discovery took place on Election Day, a date that often sees high civic activity, adding a layer of complexity to the community's response. The location behind the municipal building suggests the victims were in a familiar public area before the incident occurred.

While the exact timeline of the fall remains under investigation, the presence of the bodies near the parking garage and the municipal structure has drawn attention to the specific site. Local authorities are continuing their review of the scene to gather further evidence.
