Prince George's County police confirmed two new homicide investigations on Tuesday, with a teenage girl and an adult man dying from gunshot wounds in separate locations. A third victim, also a teen girl, remains in critical condition in a hospital following the first incident.
The first shooting occurred just before 2 a.m. on the 8100 block of 15th Avenue in Langley Park. Officers arrived to find two young women with gunshot wounds. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to a hospital where she remains in critical condition. Detectives are currently searching for a suspect and have stated they do not believe the shooting was random.
Nearly 10 hours later, around 12:25 p.m., officers responded to a call at an apartment on the 1900 block of Belle Haven Drive. They found a man suffering from gunshot wounds and pronounced him dead on the scene. The department is working to identify suspects and establish a motive for this second killing.
These deaths extend a deadly stretch for the county. At least seven people have been killed in Prince George's County since Oct. 27. That count includes four deaths that occurred on Thursday, Oct. 29.
Chief George Nader addressed the toll of the violence in a news release issued on Thursday. "We will never lose sight of the human cost of violence," Nader said. "Even one murder is too many."
