The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has launched its annual campaign to promote drug-free lifestyles across the country. The agency designated the period from October 23 to October 31, 2026, as Red Ribbon Week, a time dedicated to community action and prevention.
Schools, families, and local groups are joining forces to reinforce messages about healthy living. The DEA states that participants are learning about the destructive effects of drug misuse. This collaborative effort aims to help young people make positive choices and supports the creation of healthier communities.
The tradition dates back more than 40 years. It has grown into a national effort that unites educators and parents in a shared goal. The agency emphasizes that every individual has a role in supporting youth and spreading awareness about the benefits of a drug-free life.
The DEA has also highlighted the story of Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. An online exhibition provides historical resources and educational content about the origins of the week. Visitors can explore how Camarena’s life has inspired millions of people nationwide to honor the legacy of the observance.
The agency encourages the public to share the message with their networks. An online exhibit offers detailed information on the history and goals of the campaign. Residents can also visit the DEA Museum during this week to pick up a red ribbon in honor of the event.
