Inés Gómez-Mont, a 43-year-old Mexican actress and television presenter, was arrested in Miami on Friday, October 30. The capture ended a five-year manhunt that had left the former reality star a fugitive from justice. Mexican authorities charged her with money laundering and tax evasion.
The Federal Attorney General's Office confirmed the arrest, stating it resulted from an exchange of information with the United States government. Mexican media outlets shared images of the detention. The timing of the arrest coincided with recent diplomatic friction between Mexico and the U.S. regarding her status.
President Claudia Sheinbaum had recently pressed the U.S. government after Interpol removed the red notice for Gómez-Mont and her husband, Víctor Álvarez Puga. Sheinbaum described the couple as recognized invoice issuers who used false invoices to help business owners avoid taxes. The President noted they had extensive evidence supporting these allegations.
Mexican officials had been searching for the couple since 2021. The initial charges included organized crime, money laundering, embezzlement, and misappropriation of funds. Additional investigations focused on tax fraud. For years, rumors circulated about her whereabouts, including reports that she was hiding in Dubai.
The legal process for Gómez-Mont is expected to become more complex due to her status as a fugitive. This adds to the existing list of accusations she faces. No further details have been released regarding the specific procedural steps she will undergo in the coming weeks.
Víctor Álvarez Puga remains at large. He has not yet been detained. The couple's legal team has not issued a public statement addressing the new arrest or the ongoing charges.
