Redfin Links Home Search to Childcare Data
A new partnership with Winnie displays nearby preschool and daycare options directly on property listings, helping buyers assess care availability before closing a deal.

Buying a house is rarely just about bricks and mortar.
Redfin, a real estate brokerage, now pairs every property listing with data on local early care and education programs. The tool connects Redfin’s platform with Winnie, a national online marketplace for childcare. This integration allows prospective buyers to see which licensed providers are near a potential home before they commit to a mortgage. Redfin chief economist Daryl Fairweather noted that searching for a home often coincides with having a child. He explained that knowing childcare options helps families calculate their true housing budget.
The partnership stems from a new Redfin report highlighting that housing and childcare represent two of the largest expenses for many families. Leaders at the brokerage had long sought a way to incorporate care data into their platform. They previously worked with GreatSchools, a nonprofit that rates K-12 schools, for more than a decade. The new feature places a "Preschool & daycare" option next to the existing K-12 ratings on every for-sale listing.
The feature launched on Redfin’s mobile application for iOS and Android at the end of September 2026. It is also available on the company’s desktop website. Isabelle Novak, a spokesperson for Redfin, confirmed the rollout timeline. The system pulls data from Winnie’s database of more than 250,000 licensed early care and education programs nationwide. Buyers can view up to five nearby options, including the ages each program serves and its distance from the property.
Clicking on a program name opens a pop-up with detailed information. This includes the provider’s website, hours of operation, address, and options for financial assistance. The profile also lists any published parent reviews. For more in-depth details, buyers can click through to the provider’s page on Winnie’s site. There, they may find current tuition rates and available slots. Sara Mauskopf, CEO and co-founder of Winnie, stated that the company builds these profiles using public state licensing databases. Providers can then claim their pages and update information as needed.
About a quarter of the 250,000 provider pages on Winnie have been claimed by operators. Active providers frequently update their listings to reflect changes in open spaces, which can fluctuate daily. Mauskopf described childcare as a necessity for young families rather than a luxury. She recalled her own experience as a mother of three, when she and her husband had to scramble to secure care after moving into their home. They even considered having one parent step away from work until a spot became available.
The feature displays providers within a 10-mile radius of the property address. If no programs exist in that range, the interface displays a message indicating no providers were found. This helps identify areas with limited access to care, often referred to as childcare deserts. Mauskopf noted that affordable neighborhoods sometimes lack nearby options, which can be a dealbreaker for some buyers. The tool aims to reveal these gaps before families move.
Mauskopf observed a recent shift in the industry as providers begin posting tuition information publicly online. She attributed this change partly to families using AI tools to compare rates. While a majority of programs still require tours before sharing prices, more are willing to list costs upfront. Mauskopf hopes this trend will continue, allowing the Redfin integration to eventually display complete cost data for families.
